Greetings and welcome!
Our first bakedbeats event on May 1st was more successful than we dared imagine.
A proper groovy all day event, featuring 12 acts, including live bands, laptop sets and djs playing across 9 hours there was something for everyone. I have received some really amazing feedback from both artists and audiences [see the gallery for images].
This time round expect more of the same but quite different and with extra added even betterness!
We plan to make full use of the outside courtyard area, weather permitting, and the food available will be delicious BBQ.
Visuals will be by cardiganworld and friends and there will also be offerings from the neighbouring SAE college multimedia students and static art by popt_art.
Keeping you informed and entertained throughout the day will be the beautiful and talented ladies, Nettie and Rozifairy.
We hope to make this event even more child friendly than the last, offering something for all ages from babies to teens. Under 14s are free when accompanied by an adult and children are welcome until 8pm.
Check out for the music player on our website for a cheeky taste of each artist on the line up and keep your eyes and ears peeled on the day for spot prizes!
That's all for now, if you have any queries please do get in touch via the website contact button.
With bestest wishes, popt_art www.bakedbeats.com |

Eva Abraham
On this midsummer’s evening so fine ;)
"I want my music to be inspiring, moving, beautiful, melodic, harmonious, far reaching, explorative, to constantly shift and evolve as I constantly shift and evolve, to be around a long time." says Big Chill Recordings artist Eva Abraham. We have absolutely no doubt that it will, if you haven’t heard her you really really should. Beautiful voice, beautiful songs, beautiful woman.
Check out a review her album Shadow Gazing and shop links on the Big Chill.
inputJunkie
Have you seen his tea?
Born at an early age, the inputJunkie has always been fascinated with music and making things. Music came into his life at the age of 6 when he first heard Ian Durys "Hit me with your Rhythm Stick" whilst in a strange man's car going to school. He hasn't been right since and has a compulsion to express feelings in sound. One day there maybe a cure, but we hope not as he makes some of the most incredibly lush melodic electronica we’ve heard in a while and he keeps giving it away for free!
We've heard great reports from Haven4 last month!
Invertebrakes
funkhopbrokejazzbeatjungleafrodub...
Mixing up funk, reggae, electro, afrobeat, hip hop, broken beat and anything else that tickles their eardrums, Invertebrakes scratch, mix and loop to produce seamless funky eclecticism. There’s been plenty of excited chatter regarding their recent flute salad track and belting debut appearance at Soxan Spice so expect good things.
Manilla
bleeps & bossa & spaghetti & acid cooked 'over easy', any tempo...
London based Manilla are Simon Goodwin and Phil Heard. They met during the early 90's and discovered they shared a love of deep electronic music a mutual enthusiasm for pure melody and impure space-age-batchelor-pad kitsch. In addition to their shared musical background, Phil brought a love of dub and hip-hop and Simon a love of krautrock and electro-pop to the heady Manilla mix.
They've played a few select live gigs in London, and dropped Manilla DJ sets in venues as diverse as the Big Chill Bar and The Photographers Gallery. Later this year they play the Foundation Festival.
"The 4 Piece EP" [four track 7"] is out now on Lo Recordings is getting Radio 1 support from Steve Lamacq and Huw Stevens and rightly so! [downloads on iTunes, Bleep etc.]
Moe Foe
"live electronic dance for the 21st Century"
An eclectic mix, blurring the boundaries of breaks, drum & bass, reggae and chill out music. Smooth and rhythmic, innately urban music softened by gentle fluid grooves and big bass spaced-out tunes to dance to, with dirty beats, infectious energy. Imagine swooping through different aural planes, with dark dynamic landscapes and heavy basslines, whilst being wrapped in a cosy blanket of acoustic bliss and lulled by the sweet, sassy vocals of the delightful layla.
Check the debut album, Infinite Monkeys on their site!
Placid
"Nauseously unfunny 6ft 1 NS, BSOH, interests: music, meeting people and getting trashed, enlightened by deep, meaningful and spiritual conversation. WLTM F25 - 35 into soft fabrics, bright colours with decent taste in music."
With his roots firmly planted in straight up acid house [from which he was christened], Placid caught the music bug in 1988 and has been smitten ever since. Over the years his taste has developed, diversified and branched out into disco, deep, detroit, electro and dub. He is more passionate about music now than ever. Priority no.1 - Get agroove going.
We jolly well hope so!
Sunday driver
eclectic acoustic/Indian outfit
With their eclectic style, Sunday Driver bring the innocence of English folk and shimmering vibrancy of Eastern influences to bakedbeats. The six-piece boast harp, sitar, tabla, woodwinds and the occasional spoons solo backed by bass and acoustic guitar, topped off by Chandy Nath's vocals, by turn ethereal then earthy.
Championed by Classic FM's Chiller Cabinet, BBC Radio Cambridgeshire and BBC Radio London, they have appeared at the famous Cambridge Folk Festival and countless other venues over the past five years.
As well as producing an album and two EPs, a live version of their song Trip appears on the latest Living Room compilation from Hope Street Music, and Sweet Dreams is featured on a community compilation CD project supported by the Big Chill.
The Man Friday Project
From ambient electronica to dancefloor breaks…
The Man Friday Project is the collaborative musical outlet of Phil Spires (DJ el spiros). The music is an expression of the flow of life, expressing both the yin and the yang of human existence. Listen and let the music take you on a personal journey through the emotions. For bakedbeats Phil will be joined by the everso talented Mr. Custard on guitar.
We're very proud to be popping Man Friday's live cherry!
The Only Michael
Northern monkey…
The Only Michael has been recording and releasing his own electronic music under various names since the mid 90s, and a resident DJ at Sundaze [Sheffield] since 2001.He is proud to have been voted among the top 5 worst DJ names in DJ magazine[2002] and has performed at four Big Chill festivals, as well as at Boom (Portugal), Contact Europe (Austria) and at bars, clubs and multimedia venues throughout the UK.
Previous projects include Resolution and Feeler. Animat now takes up most of his time but he still manages the odd DJ set and some remixes in between tea breaks.
Check out animat, who graced our presence on May 1st
The Shadow Orchestra
"like taking a wander through one of Escher's fantastically complex drawings"
"Found sounds, haunting melodies, crazed rhythms, tricks and surprises make up themusic of The Shadow Orchestra, AKA producer and composer, Chris Bangs. A distinctive mixture of Electronica, Post-Rock, Jazz, folk and Classical Instrumentation, including cello, harp and glockenspiel, The Shadow Orchestra is about exploring the joyous possibilities of melody, rhythm and texture."
They got such an amazing reception at the last bakedbeats, we decided they needed an encore. And this time they’ve got drums!
Voodoo Trombone Quartet
Infectious lo-fi sampledelica, irresistible drum’n’brass fantasy
VTQ began life as an internet messageboard fantasy band, the dreamchild of Paul Thorpe started out as a one-man mashup machine, before gathering so many musicians to realize his exotic big-band a-go-go fantasies that it is now far more thena quartet. And trombones ain't the half of it. Previously with a succession of Indie-chart topping, Peel session recording bands signed to a variety of labels, Thorpe discovered the joys of Cut ’n’ Paste music and launched himself on the internet scene using material from Sesame Street and the Shipping Forecast to gain notoriety. One such cut-up even made it onto the UK Radio 1 Breakfast Show playlist. Three early tracks set loose in this way became immensely popular and clocked up thousands of downloads…
Signed to Freshly Squeezed Music, VTQ’s self-titled debut album was released in June 2005 to critical acclaim. Subsequently, the VTQ was brought into the live arena manifesting itself as an 8-piece band. Further material has appeared on compilations for Record Kicks (Italy), as remixes for ESL Music and on the official Arsenal album."
Tim rub a dub
Mister rubbadubba mmmmm….
When Tim won the Big Chill’s Open Dex in 2005 it was much to his surprise. He’d never played in public before and surrounded by a host of talented djs with seemingly perfect mixes he felt very nervous indeed.
"My friend Muzz put me up for it, believing I had some wicked tunes. I've been listening and collecting for 30 years! The nice thing about it was it felt like it was just happening to me and I have to say was a dream come true.."
As the winner, Tim was given the opportunity to play at the Big Chill Festival which he carried
off with aplomb. He’s had a few more live sets at the Big Chill Bar [as warm up for the legendary DJ Derek] and other London venues and plays a monthly slot near his home in NW London
